If you are RH negative and they is a probability that your fetus is RH positive, your ob-gyn may carryout this test during your first trimester, possible again at 28 weeks of pregnancy and in some cases you aren't tested often.
What is Rh immunoglobulin?
This is the medication that stop the body of negative RH mother from creating RH antibodies if it hasn't already created them, it can prevent fetal anemia in a future pregnancy and it's given as an injection. You are in the best position to always ask your Ob-gyn about weather you need immunoglobulin and when you might be given this medication because it's not helpful if your body has form antibodies.
When would I need to take Rh immunoglobulin?
At 28weeks of pregnancy, Rh negative woman maybe expose to Rh positive blood cells from the fetus in the last few months of pregnancy and may make antibodies against the cells, Rh immunoglobulin given at 28week of pregnancy will distroy this Rh positive cells in the woman body, this prevent Rh positive anti body from been made.
Within 72 hours after the delivery of an Rh positive baby, the great chance that the blood of a RH positive fetus will enter the blood stream of the RH negative woman happen during delivery, Rh immunoglobulin prevent a Rh negative woman from making antibodies that could affect the future pregnancy, each pregnancy and delivery of a RH positive by RH negative mother require a repeat of dose of Rh immunoglobulin.
